A couple of meems, a very nice award, and the boys get their blog back

while i was busily living in the past and churning out my memoirs of newsroom life, i got meemed twice, and got a very nice award from dumdad. the first meem is from Crown Princess, and it's actually one i've done before--seven random facts about myself. because there really aren't more than seven random facts about me (i'm not very interesting), i'll just link to my previous answers here. go there if you want to read about hamburgers, rod laver, and red shoes.

(i love the name of crown princess's blog: "Oooh, a shiny pen.")

the second meem came from -ann. as i prepare to answer it, riley and boscoe stare at me. you've taken over our blog for long enough! it is clear they are saying. so i'm going to let them help me on this one. it has plenty of questions to go around. it's the "eight things" meem.

8 things I'm passionate about (answered by BOSCOE)

1. breakfast
2. dinner
3. snacks
4. bully stix
5. rolling in the grass, and sometimes eating the grass
6. collecting, herding, and hiding all the puffy toys
7. cuddling
8. romping with riley

8 things I want to do before I die: (answered by RILEY)

1. kill another squirrel
2. kill a rabbit
3. kill a crow
4. run all the way up a tree to the top branches
5. go on an all-day walk
6. roll in something extremely foul and not have it get washed off
7. poke my head through a moon roof while zipping down the road
8. get my hands on some cheese

8 things I say often (answered by RILEY)

1. "we're never gonna get to go" (re: walks)
2. "in a box, in the closet" (re: toby)
3. "zip it." (re: no!)
4. "there's snow in the alley' (re: walks)
5. "i'm not mad, i'm just disappointed." (re: short walks)
6. "i'm just a little guy, but i'm hungry."
7. "chase me!"
8. "Too loud." (re: doug's music.)

8 Books I’ve read recently (or am still reading): (answered by ME)

1. "Ulysses" by james joyce (less than two hundred pages to go)
2. "Lonesome Dove" by larry mcmurtry (and all the sequels and prequels)
3. "The Life of Pi," by Yann Martel
4. "Amongst Women,' by John McGahern
5. "Metro Stop Dostoevski," by Ingrid Bengis
6. "Fall on Your Knees," by Ann-Marie MacDonald
7. "The Law of Dreams," by Peter Behrens
8. "The Long Walk: A True Story of a Trek to Freedom," by Slavomir Rawicz

8 Songs I Could Listen to Over and Over (And do!):

i don't listen to music much, unless i'm in the car. then i tend to listen to the same thing over and over until i'm sick of it, and then i move on to something else. recent CDs i've done this to: "Taking the Long Way," by The Dixie Chicks, "Modern Times," by Bob Dylan, and a homemade compilation of Billy Bragg.

8 Things that Attract Me to My Best Friends: (answered by BOSCOE)

1. they play with me
2. they feed me
3. they scratch my ears
4. they don't mind (very much) when i stink up the house
5. they rub my belly
6. they feed me
7. they take me for walks
8. they feed me

8 People I Think Should Do Crazy Eights:

1. Flowerpot
2. Katie
3. Menopausal old bag
4. Retired and crazy
5. M. J.
6. AOJ
7. Jo Beaufoix
8. Amy

and, finally, a terrific and attractive award from Dumdad. i'm quite honored. this is a particularly nice award because he created it and bestowed it on a dozen or so of us. we are not allowed to pass it on; it's strictly an award from him.

here's what he says: I am handing out a special award to some fellow bloggers who have made this blogging lark so much fun.

here's to you, dumdad, and back atcha. it will live proudly, front and center, in my trophy case.

Gosh, I read it wrong and thought Riley wanted to kill a cow not a crow. Dream big, eh?

So of course I had to go back and read your seven facts. Rod Laver, huh? Well, you go for class, I'll give you that.

Loved the meems and congrats on your dumdad award. He's awfully nice to have around, don't you think?

Continuing on with the separated twins/yellow walls/other oddments theory - I also scare people with my singing, also used to run six miles a day (and honestly can't remember why)and there was something else but I can't remember it.

Tell the boys to remember to share. Or you'll withhold the treats.

A rather smashing photo of the boys. I am sure they are pleased to be front and center again.

amy, he might want to kill a cow, you never know. i am pretty sure he wants to kill a horse. (he's seen them at Afton Park, and was deeply impressed.)

RC: yep, we love dumdad. and his brainy blog. and yes, why DID we run?

ped: they are swaggering. i like that picture; it's from our september trip up north. i wish they could run wild and free like that all the time.

muddyboots: mine do!

flowerpot: mine took a week, too. you have no deadline.

lane: billy bragg is one of my favorites and always will be.

coffee: thanks!

swearing mom: all typos are welcome and interpreted here.

I have enjoyed your recent posts, but gosh, it is GOOD to see and hear from the boys! I keep thinking of the boxer from "I don't know what movie" who said, can I have one cookie, two cookies, twenty cookies????

And be glad you don't live near cows...we have a hipbone or some such in our front yard as I type this!

good to see the boys have their place back.
So Riley really just wants to kill things ... and to eat other things ... and then there was:
" 8. get my hands on some cheese ". Why cheese I ask? We all know dogs love fat, but has he not learned to open the door of the fridge at this stage?

laurie said...

rough hands: he loves cheese. but actually he loves butter most of all. when i am eating a buttered bagel he gets under the table and nudges my knee winsomely and has this thing he does with his ears that makes his whole head look round and innocent and he stares with big eyes, and it's all i can do to not just hand over the entire butter dish.

and no, thank god, neither of them know how to open the fridge.

and sandy: i can picture that quite well. riley drags home sticks that are 8 feet long. he'd have no trouble with a cowbone.

Thank you so much for the meme nomination! I have so many personalities that I will have to have a chat with them to see which one will be dominant at the time and let him/her crack on with enthralling you with his/her list of facts! One is a serial killer so that could be interesting!

I just love your birth of a hack series of posts - fasciniating. I have to get around to finishing them as I have been off for a suprise long weekend in the Peak District - a wedding anniversary gift from my husband and just got back this afternoon to find your lovely meme comment on my blog! Thanks - as soon as we get a moment we'll do one!

Gorgeous doggies!

I love it! (And I also misread crow as cow. I think Toby would have a better chance of catching a cow.)

Too cute. Boscoe and Riley are so clever. And photogenic.

I really love Modern Times. If I haven't said it already, thanks.

I remember reading that 7 things post before. I have a hard time believing that you're dull or boring. After all, we keep coming back, even when you don't write about the boys.

Hee hee I love how your boys helped you with this meme.
I will definitely have a go at it. :D

Until amy mentioned it, I thought Riley had said COW as well. Do we have the same eye problem, amy? ;-)

I like it that the boys are back and I bet they're enjoying it, too.

And regarding that thing with the ears and eyes and whole face that dogs do: I swear it's the first thing dog mums teach their pups. She lines them all up in a neat little row and then comes lesson number 1: How to look so miserable and pitiful that no human is able to resist.

Congrats on your award! I love the pics of your dogs.

I've been trying to leave a comment and this is my last try. Three strikes and your out and all that..."Taking the Long Way" is one of my favorite CDs. I keep that and Bach's Brandenburg Concertos in the car at all times. I've also always got a Harry Potter book on CD there as well.
